AIADR Is Invited To Join A New International Organization

During my visit to Beijing at the end of January 2019 together with our President, Datuk Sundra, we met with the head of Legal Affairs Director of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). Both organizations are committed to facilitate trade and investment in support of the Belt & Road Initiative as well as to prevent and resolve any possible commercial dispute which may arise.

It was estimated that as of 2018, the Belt and Road Initiative is one of the largest infrastructure and investment projects in history, covering more than 122 countries, including 68% of the world’s population and 38% of the global GDP as of 2018. It is by far the largest infrastructure and investment project in Asia. With numerous projects around, disputes are inevitable and it is against this backdrop that the AIADR was founded.

The AIADR sees its role as one of the educators with respect to the resolution of disputes arising under the Belt and Road Initiative and special emphasis is put on topics pertaining to the Belt and Road Initiative in all courses whenever possible.

During the meeting with our counterpart in CCPIT, I am pleased to announce that AIADR has been invited by CCPIT to establish a new international organization along with other commercial institutions, trade associations and legal service providers institutions.

We understand that the main scope of this proposed organization is to prevent and settle commercial disputes. Towards this end, the proposed organization will have to provide a multi-mechanism for dispute prevention to the international business community which include training, consultation, pre-caution measures, promotion of the standard contract. The proposed organization will build bridges and platforms for sharing and exchanging information and resources pertaining to the international commercial legal area.

With hindsight, the establishment of this new organization will propel AIADR as a provider of excellent quality education in ADR to intensify its effort to provide affordable and localized education courses and modules to the participants.

We shall keep you posted.
