About the Seminar

During these trying times of pandemic, the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is emerging as a viable dispute settlement and resolution mechanism to the preference of parties whether internationally, regionally or domestically. In this seminar, the Secretary General of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), Dr. Liu Chao will deliver the keynote speech of the seminar setting out the central theme and fundamentals on the new norm of ADR in light of COVID-19. The session will be moderated by AIADR Vice President, Dato’ Quek Ngee Meng and join by the following esteemed speakers: –

  1. Michael Chai Woon Chew (Chairman of Legal Affairs Committee of The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and Partner of Messrs. Michael Chai & Co, Malaysia);
  2. Noorfajri bin Ismail (Senior Lecturer of ADR, Faculty of Shariah & Law, Islamic Science University of Malaysia and accredited adjudicator); and
  3. Lam Wai Loon (Founding Partner of Messrs. Harold & Lam Partnership and President of the Malaysian Society of Adjudicators).

The panel will discuss on, amongst others, the dispute settlement in commerce and business setting, the role of arbitral institutions and awareness in ADR and the comparative access to court litigation and ADR besides sharing their perspectives on the response and means of moving forward with COVID-19.
